What an interesting Winter we are having.  Rain on semi-frozen ground is not the best scenario for any of us as absorption into the ground will be minimized.  This leaves our buildings, whether commercial or residential, potentially in harm’s way and you may not know it until it is too late.  Pooled water at the foundation will penetrate the basement or ground floor if not careful or dealt with in the proper way, you may end up with more problems than just “wet stuff”. SERVPRO of Hampshire County is here to help Western Massachusetts Home and Business Owners when water intrusion occurs.  We can extract floors, carpet and pad and effectively dry building materials without totally tearing everything apart.   It’s not inexpensive or convenient to do this, but it’s less costly, quicker and more convenient than replacing that “mancave” or losing all or your valuables altogether.  What takes only a few minutes to occur takes a few days to dry versus weeks to replace/repair.  SERVPRO’s of Hampshire County’s trained technicians know what it takes to get you back to normal quickly and efficiently.

Steps to proper drying of a flooded basement or water intrusion include:

·        Pumping – if necessary – over 6 inches - it’s recommended

·        Extraction – once 2-4 inches left this is the best method of water removal using either a truck mount or portable unit.

·        Ventilation of structure

·        Introduction of air movers and dehumidifiers – must have’s for water and moisture collection/removal

·        Antimicrobial application to prohibit growth of mold/mildew

The drying process will take up to a week depending on what materials are affected.  It’s important to know that, as many folks hope and/or expect this to happen as fast as something got wet.

Bottom line - water intrusion, whether basement flooding, leaking roof or mechanical failure, can jeopardize your health, safety and sanity.  It is worth making the call to a professional restoration company with trained, certified, employees.  We have earned the trust of thousands of homeowners, business owners and property professionals (Realtors, Insurance Agents, Property Managers) in Hampshire County and surrounding areas for over 20 years.  Licensed, insured, all employees background checked and uniformed; when hiring a contractor, make sure these items are checked.

On this rainy day, it’s worth reminding you that SERVPRO of Hampshire County can be there for you when the water intrusion and basement flooding occurs.
