Amherst Railway Society Club Meetings
The society has been catering to railway enthusiasts for over 50 years. The group was started by a small number of chemistry students and faculty who held a common interest in railroads. They began by sharing stories, photos, and knowledge about the industry.
The hobby show began as a swap meet and grew to add model railroad vendors and even small model railroads for display. Originally held at the University of Massachusetts, the group moved to the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, MA in 1982. Over 25,000 people typically attend this highly respected show.
The society has built an extensive library of books, videos, and magazines. The organization is also developing educational activities for interested people in the community. The railroad show is typically held in late January or early February of every year, featuring real-life railroads, model railroads, flea markets, art shows, photographers, and travel agencies. Current schedules are yet to be announced.
